World Mission is more than just a phrase - It's about global connections. It's about two way traffic; sharing Christ and learning from each other. It's about partnership. It's about being involved. It's about being active.
The remit of the Board of World Mission has been endorsed by the General Assembly. At the General Assembly in May 2001 the remit of the board was defined as: Give life to the Church of Scotland's understanding that it is part of the universal church committed to the advance of the Kingdom of God throughout the world.
Equip and encourage Church of Scotland members at local, presbytery and national levels, to enjoy being involved in the life of the world church Help the people of Scotland to appreciate the worldwide nature of the Christian faith.
Develop and maintain mutually enriching relationships with partner churches overseas through consultation and the two-way sharing of human and material resources.
Between 2002 to 2010, the Board of World Mission is committed to: Working with our partner churches on new initiatives in evangelism Working for justice, peace and reconciliation in situations of conflict or threat Resourcing the church to set people free from the oppression of poverty Contributing meaningfully to the struggle against the HIV / AIDS pandemic Increasing the involvement of Scottish Christians in the world church.
