MECO UK and Ireland
MECO is a group of people with a heart for the Middle East, united in vision for Middle Eastern churches to engage in effective mission. We aim to be culturally sensitive, prepared to learn language, determined to stay around for the long term, flexible, willing to work in teams and to share and model the love of Christ.
We believe we're called to proclaim the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ among the people of the Middle East; work wherever possible in fellowship and co-operation with Christian churches and agencies in the region; foster church growth and church planting in the region; serve the people of the Middle East
We run Middle East Experience Teams (MEET Teams) to the Middle East twice a year. Designed for 18 to 35 year olds, they give you a flavour of the Middle East and encourage you to discover God’s plan for your future. This year, you could be travelling to Jordan to help a local church run a children’s programme for 4 weeks. Short term field placements can be arranged to suit GAP year students, and those wanting to offer for career break or early retirement service, depending on the current field situation and availability of service opportunities.
The following are examples of the long term ministries we are involved in: Church ministries - Lecturers and tutors in theological education, Youth work, Church support/pastoral care; Education - TESOL teachers, Teachers in schools and colleges, Training for special needs such as for the blind, deaf and disabled; Health and Welfare - Doctors, nurses and midwives, Physiotherapists and occupational therapists, Primary health care workers, Rehabilitation workers with the disabled, Refugee aid and development programmes; Media and Literature - Production for satellite, video and DVD, Distribution of Bibles, Christian Literature, DVD's and videos.
We serve in Egypt, Cyprus, Jordan, Lebanon, N. Iraq, Sudan, Syria, Turkey, U.A.E. and Yemen.
