Gospel Literature Outreach (GLO)
GLO is a mission and training organisation with missionaries serving throughout the world. GLO began in Australia in 1965 primarily through the vision for evangelism of Colin Tilsley and subsequently has been established in Christian Brethren Churches throughout Australia, New Zealand and Europe. The base for GLO Europe was established in Motherwell, Scotland in 1974. There are now over 70 full-time workers serving from mainly Christian Brethren churches bases across Europe alone. Our European base is 'The GLO Centre' in Motherwell which is also home to 'Tilsley College' which is the training branch of GLO.
Through partnership in mission, our purpose is to engage in evangelism and the establishing of local churches. We are committed to a strategy which involves using short term mission teams alongside residential church planting teams, and which includes a high training content provided through courses run in college and in practical ministry situations.
GLO offers short term opportunities in Europe and Africa by way of the summer team programme, which each year involves over 250 people. These teams give the opportunity to work alongside a resident missionary team for one to two weeks. The Programme is available and on our web-site under 'Mission'.
(a) Resident Church Planting teams: GLO has teams which work both in pioneer church plant situations and alongside established churches. The methods of evangelism are unique from team to team depending on both the local culture and gifting of the specific individuals within each resident team. (b) Tilsley College opened in 1975 with a view to training people for Christian service in the UK and abroad. Since then hundreds of students have come through our doors and many of them are now serving God across the world. We offer a one year "Training for Service" course which combines theological and biblical reflection with practical experience. The course runs from the end of September until June each year and the residential cost is £3,600 (this includes tuition, accommodation and full board). The course is open to external access students who wish to study on a part time basis. A ministry internship year is available as a follow on from the first year of college based studies.
In addition to Europe-wide mission teams and the training for Service Programmes, at the GLO Centre in Motherwell we have a large Christian Bookshop and coffee shop, and an auditorium for conferences with seminar facilities for hire.
