Wycliffe Bible Translators
Why do we do what we do? Through the Bible, God speaks directly to every man, woman and child. But unless people have the Bible in their heart language, they cannot hear his message of life, hope and salvation. Over 2700 languages still don’t have a single verse of Scripture. Since 1999, Wycliffe has been pursuing Vision 2025 which states that: ‘By 2025, together with partners world-side we aim to see a Bible translation programme begun in all the remaining languages that need one.’
Our aim is to glorify God by promoting and participating in a movement of the church world-wide to make disciples of all nations through Bible translation.
How can I be involved in this exciting vision? By signing up for one of our Short Term programmes. GRIP; GRaduate International Programme for 1-2 years. If you are a recent honours graduate from any discipline and have an analytical mind you will have some valuable skills. Adapt these to survey work, language analysis, dictionary making, exegesis, literacy work and much more. One to One; tailor-made mission for 6 weeks to 1 year. If you have skills in the areas of admin, childcare, book-keeping, maintenance, IT or teaching, then we can probably find a place where those skills can serve the wider work of Bible Translation and literacy. Your skills will be assessed, used and stretched as you serve God and assist longer-term workers.
Coming on board long-term; as a Career member. You would be open to working as a member of Wycliffe for a significant part of your life. Wycliffe personnel trust God to meet their needs through a team of prayer and financial partners: mission is done in partnership with the local sending church. You would join Wycliffe Bible Translators, sent out by your home church or churches, for an initial period of two years. During this period you would work alongside a more experienced team, learning from them and making your own contribution. Towards the end of the two years you, Wycliffe, overseas leadership and your church would talk about future possibilities.
How can I get more information? There is a wide range of information on our website, including application papers for the above programmes. We are always willing to come to speak at Church services or to a Church group - just call us to fix a date!
